The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) was formerly known as Association of Better Computer Dealers. Their main obejectives during their first inception was to monitor the evolving technology of personal computers and the business behind it. Nowadays, it evolved into one of U.S prominent computing certification body.
One of the most sought after skill in information technology is to understand the fundamental of computing. CompTIA provide the certification for this by setting a special examination for students. The more famous one is CompTIA A+ that is considered entry level. However, recently this organization sees a need for those who wants to learn the basic of computing but doesn't need to know complicated jargon. So another lower level certification was created.
This examination is called CompTIA Strata and it consists of several smaller examinations including JK0-U31 or CompTIA E2C Strata IT Technology Exam. Now, if this is a lower level of certification what kind of questions that comes out from the exam.
There are several things that you can expect in the JK0-U31. It mostly touches on the subject of hardware and how it runs inside the computer. For instance, you will get simple questions on a screensaver and why it was created into the system. It might seem straightforward but not many know that it was initially designed to prevent phosphor burn-in on CRT monitor. There would be harder questions like the difference between Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and Wired Equivalent Protection (WEP). Now WPA is for home network standard and encryption while WEP is a security protocol for wireless network. And you might get question about Universal Serial Bus (USB) and how does it affect the plug and play development of modern computers. But JK0-031 doesn't just cover hardware jargon it will also test students on how to handle the computer hardware. So you could find questions on Electrostatic discharge or ESD. This is the kind of static electricity that we generate everyday and it could actually harm computer components if we accidentally touched them.
Therefore, as you can see, the subject is quite simple for computer expert but still can be hard for beginners. You can't just pick a bunch of books and start reading because it would be a waste of time and effort. There many companies that provides online study guide and even self test. You can try and download part of the program for free or you can just buy the whole package. It might cost you some but it will be a small amount to pay to achieve high grade for your examination. And after that you might consider taking a higher level CompTIA examination.
