The first curry recipe was believed to have been published in a recipe book in the UK in the mid-1700s. Some fifty or sixty years later the first Indian curry house opened in London and since then Indian cuisine has continued to grow in popularity to the point where customers are now faced with a very difficult decision every time they wish to dine out at restaurants in Birmingham as there are simply so many to choose from.
The second city is famed for its Indian cuisine and diners come from far and wide to enjoy the smells and tastes of top restaurants in Birmingham's balti triangle. Birmingham's Pakistani and Kashmiri communities brought the balti to the city in the seventies and in response to growing demand for the sizzling spices and fresh meat and vegetables these dishes feature, more and more restaurants were established.
Giant table sized naans also became a popular choice allowing everyone around the table to mop up every last bit from their balti bowl. The bowls incidentally are now made in Birmingham - which probably makes it easier to get these vital tableware items to their end user.
The Balti triangle is at the heart of Birmingham and features approximately fifty Indian restaurants and takeaways, employing hundreds of members of staff and attracting visitors not just from the local area but also those from much further afield. It is said that the average balti house gets through around two thousands kilos of onions every week and about 300 kilos of chicken breast - which helps to keep other local traders in business and fuels this successful local economy.
When searching in this area for the perfect place to dine you will need to consider whether you want a licensed restaurant or prefer to take your own drinks, which usually works out to be the cheaper option. If it is more convenient for you to enjoy your favourite balti in the comfort of your own home then many restaurants also offer a takeaway service so you can collect your food and take it home to eat at a time that is convenient to you.
You may prefer to dine at lunchtime, in which case you will need to investigate which Indian restaurants in Birmingham offer lunchtime opening as well. Whatever time of day you wish to eat Indian cuisine, whether in the balti triangle or elsewhere across the city, you will have plenty of fabulous dishes to choose from.
